The Siberian Ring Photon Source Collective Use Center (SKIF) has received a construction completion certificate. According to Novosibirsk Region Governor Andrey Travnikov, following a comprehensive on-site inspection by Rostekhnadzor, a certificate of inspection of the capital construction project has been issued, which is the basis for its commissioning. "Full construction readiness of the buildings and structures was confirmed by Rostekhnadzor following a comprehensive on-site inspection of the facility. Currently, SKIF is fully equipped with over 60,000 pieces of equipment. The SKIF Center for Collective Use is a megascience project with a Generation 4+ synchrotron, built in the Novosibirsk science city of Koltsovo. It is a complex of 34 buildings and structures and is unique in the world. The unique characteristics of the new synchrotron will enable advanced X-ray research in a variety of fields—chemistry, physics, materials science, biology, geology, and the humanities—and will also address pressing issues facing innovative and industrial enterprises. The implementation of such a large-scale federal project in the Novosibirsk region confirms that everything started in the region is being completed," Andrey Travnikov commented on social media. Construction of the SKIF synchrotron began near the Koltsovo science town in the Novosibirsk region, near the Vector State Research Center, on August 25, 2021. The SKIF shared-use center is a separate division of the Institute of Catalysis of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences. According to the updated construction plan for the SKIF shared-use center, the launch of the facility, with seven stations in the first phase, is scheduled for 2026. However, the technical launch of the SKIF shared-use center already took place on December 22 of last year. The stations are planned to be used to study the structure of biopolymers, the mechanisms of functioning of living organisms, the transmission of genetic information, the mechanism of action of drugs, the creation of new materials, the study of fast processes, and other applications. The construction of the SKIF shared-use center was initially estimated at 37.1 billion rubles; the final cost of the entire project currently exceeds 50 billion rubles.
